Governor Josh Stein recently announced that The Clearing House Payments Company L.L.C. will be making an $11.5 million investment to establish a new office in Charlotte, which will result in the creation of 200 jobs in Mecklenburg County. This announcement was made on October 27, 2026, alongside the approval of a Job Development Investment Grant by North Carolina’s Economic Investment Committee.
Under this grant, the state could reimburse the company up to $2.43 million over a period of 12 years, but only if The Clearing House meets specific job and investment targets. Additional funds, amounting to up to $810,000, will go to the Industrial Development Fund – Utility Account to assist rural communities with necessary upgrades. The overall state commitment to this project is projected to reach $3.24 million. Charlotte secured this investment over competing cities like Atlanta, Dallas, and Tampa due to quality of life and workforce considerations. The planned office is expected to add over $32 million to the county’s annual payroll, with average salaries around $162,322 for the new positions.
