Panthers Dismiss Ejiro Evero as Defensive Coordinator After Setback to Packers

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — In a notable move following their 27-19 defeat to the Green Bay Packers, the Carolina Panthers have terminated defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero and defensive passing game coordinator Jonathan Cooley. Evero marks the first NFL coordinator to be released this season.

Currently sitting at 3-4, the Panthers ranked 22nd in overall defense and last against the run before this decision. This marks the first significant shake-up under head coach Dave Canales, who began his tenure in 2024. Evero was brought on board in 2023. Under his leadership, the Panthers struggled defensively, finishing at the bottom in defensive performance and points allowed in 2024. Meanwhile, defensive line coach Todd Wash has been appointed as interim defensive coordinator, responsible for calling plays moving forward.
