BELMONT, N.C. – An early morning accident involving an SUV and a train is currently the subject of an investigation by the Belmont Police Department. Officers responded at approximately 6:30 AM on Wednesday to reports of a collision at the intersection of Acme Road and Cason Street, where the SUV struck the Charlotte & Western Train.
According to preliminary details, the SUV was approaching from Perfection Avenue and collided with the train’s front. A witness aboard the train noted that the vehicle was operating without headlights and did not seem to reduce its speed before impact. Brandy Lancaster, a passenger in the SUV, sustained a non-life-threatening head injury and was taken to a local hospital for care. Authorities revealed that Lancaster was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. Emergency services remained on the scene while efforts were made to disconnect the SUV from the train and clear the area.
