Six Flags says it will install seat belts on Georgia roller coaster after rider’s death

The CEO of Six Flags, John Reilly, confirmed that the company will be adding seat belts to the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia, where a rider fell to his death on October 12. The measures are being taken less than two weeks after the tragedy, which involved 42-year-old Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem from Atlanta.

Goliath remains closed while investigations by state and local officials take place. In his statement, Reilly also mentioned that other coasters with similar restraint systems will receive the same safety upgrades. Meanwhile, eight additional roller coasters across various Six Flags parks in the U.S. and Canada have been temporarily shut down due to shared design elements with Goliath. Independent engineers are reviewing safety protocols for all rides, as Six Flags aims to enhance safety measures in response to the incident.
