CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Following the suspension of North Carolina’s 41 cent per gallon gas tax ten days ago, drivers report varied experiences at the gas pump. Lane Killian from Mt. Holly noted, “It’s a lot cheaper to fill my truck up, so that’s a good thing,” while Bobby Somerville expressed the need for even lower prices and called for action against oil companies.
As complaints mount, Attorney General Jeff Jackson reported over 600 instances where gas prices seem inconsistent. He urged consumers to observe price changes, stating that significant discrepancies could indicate non-compliance. Gas stations are permitted to charge pre-suspension prices for fuel purchased earlier due to purchasing schedules. AG Jackson aims to ensure the suspension benefits consumers rather than result in excessive profits for gas stations.
