Charlotte Hornets to retire jersey of Muggsy Bogues

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Today, the Charlotte Hornets announced that they will retire Muggsy Bogues’ No. 1 jersey during a halftime ceremony at their game against the Milwaukee Bucks on February 11, 2027, at Spectrum Center. This significant event will mark Bogues as the third player in the franchise’s history to have his jersey retired, following Bobby Phills (No. 13) and Dell Curry (No. 30).

During his 10 seasons with the Hornets, Bogues became a pivotal figure in the organization, recognized for his career achievements and dedication to the Charlotte community. Selected during the 1988 NBA Expansion Draft, he played 632 games, averaging 8.8 points and 8.8 assists, and he holds multiple franchise records. Beyond his on-court success, Bogues has significantly impacted the Charlotte community and the global basketball scene through his ongoing ambassadorial role and charitable efforts.
