Blue Line Will Have Single-Tracking, Rail Trail Detours Near South End, Nov. 2-Dec. 11

Beginning November 2 and continuing until December 11, Blue Line trains in Charlotte will operate on a single-track system at designated times as part of ongoing upgrades by the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS). These adjustments are necessary to facilitate significant system improvements and the construction of a new station in the South End area.

During this time, rail services will adhere to a modified schedule, and travelers are encouraged to allow additional time for their journeys, particularly during peak hours. Signage will guide riders to the correct boarding platforms. Specific single-tracking dates include: November 2-6 and November 9-13 on southbound platforms, November 14-15 on northbound platforms, and November 30-December 4 and December 7-11 again on northbound platforms.

The Rail Trail will also undergo closures corresponding with the construction schedule. These will affect the trail sections between the new pedestrian crossing and local businesses during specific dates. Brent Cagle, interim CEO of CATS, expressed gratitude for the riders’ understanding as they undertake this critical work to enhance safety and system reliability.
