CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte City Council is slated to vote on Monday regarding the potential extension of its moratorium on new data center developments. This temporary pause is driven by worries surrounding electricity demand, water consumption, and the effects on local neighborhoods.
WCCB Charlotte had the opportunity to tour Flexential’s north Charlotte data center, where company executive Jacob Horr shared insights on the city’s stance. He mentioned, “Yeah, I think they’re they’re asking the right questions, right? Power, water usage, how are we impacting the natural resources? And you know, the, I think the most important thing is that that we look at you know the facts around data centers as I mentioned earlier not all data centers are created equal.” The existing moratorium is due to end on November 5th unless the city council votes for an extension.
